So apparently there was a big explode-y sound this morning. I totally missed it, but word is it was a bolide - a special kind of meteorite.

From the Seattle PI: Toby Smith, a University of Washington astronomy lecturer who specializes in meteorites, said the skybursts were reported over a wide area around 2:40 a.m.

Allow me to just say that I frigging love going to this school - I've taken a class with that guy!!! He's so cool!!

How cool is Professor Smith? He was lecturing about the asteroid belt one day, and he said we were gonna watch a documentary - normal stuff. "Now, this is an old film," he warns us, "so I want you to know there are going to be some inaccuracies." Lights go down, projector-screen goes blue...

And cuts to Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Leia navigating the asteroid belt.

That? Is awesome. *grumble* Why didn't we get to watch Star Wars in my Astronomy class?

It's very cool to see your professors on the news.

I know! He was great.

It really and truly is. Makes up for the occasional frustrations of going to a huge research university. *G*

Cool that you're finally done with performance.

Y'know what? I saw that last night. It was spectacular. The whole sky lit up a sort of green yellow. It was *phenomenal*, and I had no idea what the heck had just happened. My first thought was aliens.

I'd be jealous if it didn't mean that clearly you were awake and near a window at 2:40 in the morning. What on the green earth were you doing awake at an hour like that???

....On the other hand, you still don't have a class before noon, do you? *sighs* Nevermind.

Hey now, two of my classes are before noon everyday! That dream schedule only happened first quarter.

...Crap. It's three in the morning right now, isn't it?

Damn it! I live in Olympia... I was awake at the specified time... and I completely MISS both the sound and the flash of light. This always happens!

Video!
