Alright, people - this year, I am Planning Ahead for NaNoWriMo, mostly because I suspect it may be the only way I will actually get anything done. And I am bound and determined to actually finish this year. So.

Here's my dilemma: the last few years, I've actually managed to accumulate a couple of vague notions about things that I want to write, and I don't know which I should go for. So, inspired by a couple other writerly folks on my lovely f-list, I am soliciting your help in deciding which damned novel I should spend this fall desperately trying to write.

Ticky Box!

There's always the option of combining things, which is my Something Else. Combine other ideas into one, perhaps?

Also, I'd've checked fanfiction, except for the "original concepts are ass" thing. Fanfic for NaNo is deliciously self-indulgent. *nods sagely* But it doesn't mean original things suck!

Yeah, that's usually my "Something Else" as well, but I usually end up getting sort of boggled as to how exactly to do so without losing everything I'd originally intended about the novel. *Sighs*

I am not skilled with the long-form or original work. Alas.

If all else fails, I will spend the month writing shamelessly self-indulgent fanfiction. But I do sort of want to try to practice my original stuff, being as how... well... I need the practice.

I'm working on turning 'Exodus' into my version of option one. Um. Where 'working on' means 'ocasionally thinking *oh yes, Exodus, I was going to make a novel out of that wasn't I?'

I know that feeling. My version of working on original fiction usually involves me taking plot/thematic/character notes, writing a few paragraphs of dialogue, and then getting completely distracted.

I didn't click for Edward, because I wouldn't do him unless you figure out *what* you are going to do with him.

The urban fantasy would be fun, and even if you don't think it's original, so what? (And chances are, it's more original than you think--or it'll get more original when you spend more time with it.)

If you want help with preplanning ideas and such, you know where to find me. That's something I seem to be relatively practiced in. I probably won't be doing NaNo this year, though... of course, I say that every year and do it anyway ;)

That's my general feeling with Edward, as well. I liked him, he's a fun and interesting character... but I have no clue what to do with his story, and writing that era of England takes the kind of research that tends to get me completely distracted from the fact that, oh, right, I'm supposed to be writing, anyhow. XD

I'm putting him in the "someday, when I'm ready for it" pile, along with the Really Neat sci-fi idea that I've got.

I might very well take you up on that pre-planning thing. In the past, it's been my procedure to completely avoid talking about my original work because I felt like I'd lose the magic of the ideas if I talked about them... but I seem to lose the magic anyway, and at least with my fic I often find that talking things out with somebody else makes things clearer to me. So! It'd probably do me good.

...Anyway, Sebastian is to blame for one of the major plot points in the 90s-urban-fantasy idea, so... you have rights to be involved anyway. XD

Since it's hard for me to talk about my own stories, I understand. It's perfectly possible to share techniques without knowing anything about the story, but feedback is a little harder to do. LoL Whatever you feel comfortable with.

Just let me know :D

Sebastion would be honored!

I'll write up what I've got for both the urban fantasy and the potential Gothic sci-fi. I fear most people are misinterpreting my meaning of "Gothic"... could be interesting nonetheless, though. At least if I email you the basic ideas, I can find out whether or not you think they're anything close to worth reading, let alone writing. ;)

I hope so!

I can think of multiple interpretations of "Gothic" and I like most of them ;) Will it be okay if I prod and ask questions based on what you send?

You betcha! That's the best way to get ideas moving, in my experience. Forced to answer questions, I usually manage to come up with something!

Coolness. Asking questions is how I work out my own stories. I just run into people who only want to share and not get feedback (and get mad when I give it unsolicited), so I figured I should ask before so if you didn't want feedback I could shut off that part of my brain preemptively. LoL

(Damn Virgo in me.)

Send it on when you're ready! You know my addy, right? My username @comcast.net

Your last option has turned on the evil part of my mind, which is trying to figure out how to write a novel in ticky boxes.

I'd be a lot more tempted if I had a paid account-- I was kind of wanting one and then Six Apart started acting crazy, so I'm saving my money till they have a solid month or two of sanity.

I know the feeling. I was seriously considering a permanent account before the crap hit the fan, and then I sort of backed away quietly and decided that no, I don't really need all those icons and such, after all. :P

I liked the idea of the Anthropological Sci-Fi, that sounds great!
Did you already put in your BPAL order?
If you haven't yet, could I add one to yours
and pay you for it since you're sending one in anyway? Let me know ok?

We'll see what happens... I'm still kind of iffy about whether or not I'm ready for that one. :P

I think we did - one of the scents we're ordering is a really limited edition, so I think Terra was going to order yesterday. Sorry about that! Which one were you looking at?

From: [identity profile] narsilion.livejournal.com
Oh, that's ok, maybe I'll order some myself.
I was looking at Death of Autumn, and Huntermoon. Can you order any that you see on the sight? It's so neat to read the discriptions of the scents.

Ooo, yeah, I looked at both of those before I made the decision to go with October. You can order any of them, but the limited editions are only available in 5ml bottles.

...On the other hand, if you're really thinking of buying one or both of those, I'd be willing to go in with you on them if you don't want a whole bottle to yourself. They both sounded wonderful. XD

I actually was thinking of getting them.
It would be neat to share them. Can you order empty containers to make sharing easier, or how does that work?
And yes, I really thought they sounded great.

There's a place on Roosevelt that sells empty perfume bottles and the little teeny plastic droppers to use with them. I'll be getting a few for the order I'm doing with Terra, anyway, so I'll just get a couple more.

XD

Hey, we had a miscommunication about the order, so we haven't put it in yet. If you haven't done yours yet, we can add it into our order!

It was the two, right? They're something like $20 per, so if we're splitting the bottles I'd say you owe me about $20 total.
