Blessedly, after talking to Mom last night I determined that it'll be ok if I wait to return the dratted shoes until Saturday. Thank heaven. I really didn't want to go through the trouble of hauling my butt all the way to Northgate tonight after work.
In other news, I am finding new and unique ways to oversleep, which very much NOT helped by the recent streak of fire alarms here in the dorm. We've had something like three in the last two weeks... which brings the total for this quarter, I belive, up to five. I could be a bit off on that count... but it's close enough, damn it. I really hate being woken up by the blasted things, especially on nights when I have to get up early.
Also, I am pissed off because I have work at 7am tomorrow morning. Wah. Thursday is normally a "sleep-in" day for me (read: I only have to get up at 7:30 instead of 6:30). Argh.
I'm so damned tired. Need to go to bed early tonight.

Date: 2004-03-03 06:37 pm (UTC)because there were many Jews potrayed in the movie crying, and begging for the Romans not to carry out the crucifiction. Pontius Pilate is portrayed semi-compassionate to Jesus's plight,
didn't feel he had done anything which deserved
what the Rabbi's and some of the Jews were calling for, which obviously was crucifiction.
He sent them(the Rabbi's and Jesus) to King Herod
so that he would not need to make the decision,
he did not want to be caught between Ceasar, who wanted his death and war, and his wife, who felt
that Jesus was a profit and that he should be saved, he did end up however making the decision
because Herod would not and he was being threatened with death. (this BTW is the way it reads in my Bible also).
I have talked with many of the Jewish people that we clean for, though and the majority of
them are offended deeply and feel it IS anti-semetic.(I do have to point out though, that none of them have yet seen the movie, nor do most of them want to).
I feel it's just Mel Gibson's view of what happened, he shelled out his own money, and I guess I feel like he has as much of a right to put a movie out there a anyone else.
There are alot of movies of many different kinds
out there that offend people, and I guess my feeling is, if you think it's offensive-DON"T
go see it. Again, just my humble opinion, hope no one is offended or hurt.

Date: 2004-03-03 06:53 pm (UTC)That said, I've heard that Pontius Pilate is only portrayed that way in *some* of the gospels - specifically the ones that were written during a time when the Christians were trying to convert the Roman empire to their side. And I've also heard that historians have pretty good proof that he was a total bastard who crucified *tons* of people to keep order in his realm. So... it kind of strikes me badly.
I've also heard that Mel Gibson referred to people who didn't like his movie as the "dupes" or "servants of Satan." Granted, I don't have the exact quote from him, but I sort of trust NPR's film critic. And if he did say that, it's just NOT okay by me.
Now, I will admit that I'm firmly in the camp of the people who bitch about this movie despite staunchly refusing to see it. I also wouldn't really want to see it even if *everyone* was going off about how wonderful it was. Plus, when I hear crappy reviews of a movie and generally hear that it's a pointless gore-fest, it just doesn't make me want to see that movie.
....
All of that said, I've heard that Hidalgo is out in theaters now - YAY!!!!!!!

enjoy this movie.
