Kitty (still unnamed) spent all day locked in the bedroom with her food, water, carrier, and litter box, and some new toys we bought her, because we felt guilty that she'd been living in the bathroom for a week. She was friendly and happy and ate some wet food, and survived her first meeting with Theoden with nary a moment of panic (despite his being a big rude monster and hissing at her twice when she tried to touch noses with him). All in all, it was a Good Day... until about 10:30pm. We'd just decided that it would be nice to let her stay in the bedroom overnight, and The Boy was going to go in there to read before bed... and she'd had an accident on the bed. A messy one.

Fantastic.

So we scramble, get her back into her carrier and into the bathroom with her food and water and toys, and then strip the bed and run everything down to the laundry. Let it never be said that having had bedbugs isn't good for something - our bedclothes and mattress all have nice thick, tightly-woven covers that are well-nigh to waterproof, so the mattress itself was saved, thank goodness. But Kitty's Bad Evening was not done yet! She puked a ball of fur from her mouse-toy in the bathroom, and had a little blood in her urine. Searches on the internet indicate that one time seeing this isn't too much to worry about, but if we see it again it may indicate urinary tract or bladder infection. Luuuuuvely.

...Aaaaand now to go find something to entertain until we go downstairs to switch the laundry into the dryer. I think I'm too sleepy to continue my earlier reading of The Two Towers in French, right now. :P

Poor little kitty. It sounds just awful for her - and you, of course. I hope she's okay.

Yeah, it's been a really rough week for the poor little thing. ♥ She seemed fine after, last night and this morning. Maybe everything that happened yesterday was just too much excitement for her.

If the blood and the inappropriate peeing started after the room switch and meeting the other cat, it could be that she gets stress-related cystitis. If it's still going on now that she's back in familiar surroundings, though, maybe not. I'd call the vet even if the problem resolves itself, just so they have a record of it they can refer to if it recurs. Don't be surprised if they want to run a urinalysis either way, just to rule out infection - that's what we'd do. But, if it's not infection, they may have management suggestions. I know that this: http://www.amazon.com/Farnam-Comfort-Diffuser-Feliway-Milliliters/dp/B000FH708I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1275229054&sr=8-1 - sometimes helps.

. . but I absolutely am not trying to diagnose her or suggest treatment, just throwing ideas your way, and really you should call the vet. (This is the ack-you're-not-a-doctor! voice in the back of my head kicking in and shoving the but-I-want-to-be-helpful! voice out of the way.)

You may also have just found why she got dumped; inappropriate urination is the number one reason why cats get turned in to the SPCA. There is no number one reason why cats get left in parking lots, as the people who do that tend not to fill out surveys about it, but I'd guess it's high up there too.

Thanks for the reminder about Feliway - we had that when our boys first met, though if I remember right we later figured out that at least one of the outlets we'd plugged it into was a dead one, so... who knows if it was actually doing anything. But hey, might be worth a(nother) go! Also good points about the possibility of stress pinging something (although poor Theo looked more stressed by that than she did!), and about calling up the vet either way. We'll give them a ring on Tuesday - we have to set up an appointment for her follow-up vaccinations, anyway. :)

Yup, I wondered about that, too. She's young enough I think we should be able to track down whatever the problem was and fix it, but I have to admit that even I had a bit of a "oh god, we she's not one of those cats, is she?" moment. Here's hoping it was just a fluke from all the weird stuff that's been happening to her since we rescued her.
