rivendellrose: (Tea)
Just a brief drive-by post to say that I had a nice Thanksgiving, followed immediately by The Boy succumbing to his traditional post-Thanksgiving sickness. This time, fortunately, it did not involve fever, just a nasty cold that left him fairly nonfunctional Friday and Saturday.

He was starting to feel significantly better Saturday night, which, of course, meant that I woke up sick this morning.

Consequently, we've watched a lot of TV this weekend. We're catching up on Community now that we have Hulu (purchased largely for The Good Place, which is still the most compelling half-hour show I've ever seen) and also on the most recent season of Great British Bake-Off, which I was on strike against due to the firing of Mel and Sue (okay, if I'm honest I probably would not have gone so far as a strike just for Mel, but I fucking love Sue Perkins). The discovery that they replaced her with Sandy Toksvig (who I only recognized once she was doing a voice-over bit due to knowing her mostly from the BBC Radio 4 News Quiz years ago) has mollified me significantly, though I don't much like her co-host. Does "Goth" mean something different in the UK than it does in the US, or is he simply delusional when he claims to be one? Eyeliner alone does not a Goth make, dude, and those shirts don't belong anywhere near it. ...Anyway, other than those complaints and the fact that, as usual, they axed one of my favorites well before their time, it's nearly as enjoyable as it used to be. So that's nice.

Also finally watched some Time Team on YouTube (the Westminster Abbey special), in addition to a couple episodes of something called Medieval Dead, which is interesting (if you love forensic anthropology as much as I do, anyway) but could do with being edited down by about half due to excessive repetition.

Not a lot else to report at this time. Sore throat, tired, work getting dumped on me just as I felt too sick to do it, more work expected tomorrow... you know, the usual. Probably going to go to bed early tonight in hopes of kicking this stupid virus to the curb as quickly as possible.
rivendellrose: (easy my ass)
Woke up, hauled self out of bed, grumbled about sinuses, went to make tea... and carefully piled a teaspoon of lemongrass onto the cap of my tea-strainer. Naturally, it all fell out when I tried to close the strainer (upside-down). Yesterday, I felt relatively okay first thing and still managed to get the same task sent back twice because I didn't quite understand that they wanted all their buttons changed so that they didn't have the franchises the dealer doesn't carry, rather than just half of them. Seriously. The poor advocate must've thought I'd lost my mind.

Between that and the fact that I can't go five minutes without sneezing, I think it's best for everyone that I stay home today, drink a lot of herbal tea, and try to sleep this damned virus off. Blergh.

In totally unrelated news, happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] kungfuwaynewho!!! Many happy returns!♥

Sinuses have decided they want to kill me. Stupid late allergy season due to stupid late spring due to stupid climate change. Stupid, stupid, stupid cotton-wood, which I am almost certain is the cause of my stupid allergies. Stupid Lynnwood, which is full of stupid cottonwood, with my stupid office in the middle of it all.

Sinuses are slowly suffocating me. Drowning in the unspeakable output of nasal cavity. Can't breathe properly. Can't talk properly. Can't think properly, as keep getting distracted by the fact that I can't breathe or talk properly, and also because I keep thinking "if I could just get home and use the netipot, I could clear this out." Although, hell, if I just went home, it'd probably lessen on its own because one of the great things about living downtown is that there sure as hell are a lot fewer cottonwood trees, and anything else plant-based to be allergic to. :P

Woe.

Send help tea new sinuses, plz.

Home sick with icky ear thing still bothering me. It got a little better this morning, but I still want to hold out a few hours and see if I think I should go to the doctor. It doesn't actually hurt so much as half my head is full of sinus pressure and my neck is a bit tender/swollen. But I had some drainage (hello, TMI, sorry, but it's true) this morning, which is usually a good sign, and I feel significantly better... just not sure it'll last.

In the mean time, I'm trying not to feel too guilty about taking an impromptu day off. :P

I have sorbet, tea, Chloraseptic spray, and soup, and that is the last time I am going outside today. Even walking across the street to the market made me feel weak and slightly as if my head was a balloon. And my throat is still on fire. So that's it - I'm going back to bed.

Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] nekokoban. I know the queue's getting worse, but... I was not going to be any help today anyway.

I have achieved a practicum! I"m going to be organizing and recording the photo collection at this local house museum, about which I'm terribly excited. The process was a bit amusing - I'd scheduled an appointment with the executive director (who also happens to be my exhibit design professor), and got off early from work to go to it, and of course ended up a bit early because I'd been nervous about the buses. Showed up at the house/museum, said hello to one of my classmates, and my professor and his wife (who spoke briefly to our class about... something I've forgotten, because she works at another local museum), and his response was pretty much "Hi, great to see you, no trouble at all that you're early, do you feel up to blowing up some balloons?"

Apparently he had forgotten to tell me that the museum was having a big fund-raiser/open-house thingy this evening. And had consequently, in all the hubbub, had forgotten that I was there to talk to him about the practicum, not to help out and hang out at the fund-raising thing (as the classmate was, although she's also (unrelated to the party) doing her practicum there). So I blew up balloons and festooned an abandoned vespa and the front gate with them, and carried plates and things to various rooms, and helped his wife put together hors d'ouevres and then we set up my practicum. All of which was terribly fun. That's part of what I love about museum work, honestly - you literally never know what you're going to be doing next. And after that I accepted the insistent offer of a beer and then trooped home, despite sort of wanting to stay (because I do enjoy myself a good schmoozing party, when I know the grounds I'm on), but I thought it'd be better to delay that sort of thing until I'm more prepared and know more about the museum. Besides, as casual as it was, I didn't really feel like I was dressed for it, and...

I'm coming down with a sinus thing. All the symptoms are in line - I've had plugged ears the last few days when I wake up, I've been sneezing, and now I have a sore throat. Bleh. So I will go in tomorrow and survive the last day of the week, and then I shall, most likely, sleep all weekend. But now I'm drinking tea and will go to bed early (possibly with something hot and alcoholic in my system), and all is more or less well. Except my throat, which is scratchy.

So, food poisoning! DX

We ordered out last night because neither of us felt up to cooking. I had chicken tikka masala... which tasted 'bleh,' but I didn't think much of it 'cause I assumed the place had just gotten a new chef. Filed it off under "don't order from them anymore, 'cause the new guy kinda sucks." Yeah. New guy sucks more than I thought, I guess - woke up this morning feeling fine and then was hit with progressively nasty abdomenal (I'm too lazy to figure out what's wrong with that spelling...) abdominal cramps, then bam! Dizzy, nausea, fever, chills. Cue me curled up on the floor of our living room with the cat walking worried circles around me, and rummaging brainlessly for my phone to call in sick. Stayed on floor for half an hour. Transitioned to couch and have been there ever since, with a few journeys to the kitchen to heat my muscle pad and tea. So. Loads of fun.

On the up side, I see that the BBC has owned up to the Spoiler of yesterday evening (I remain optimistic, but will be staying way the hell away from fanfic and pairing discussions because, um, yeah), and also that they appear to be doing an advent type thing for the Christmas special, which promises to be fun. Much better than cheap chocolate, anyhow. XD

Off to see if I can manage oatmeal (the making of and/or the eating of). I feel just well enough to eat, but certainly not anything that would even vaguely run the risk of making me nauseous, and since we don't have crackers and making toast would involve the oven, I guess that means oatmeal.
