rivendellrose: (Hand and Arm)
I know I have a bunch of knitter friends here, so does anybody have some really great resources (videos, blog posts, whatever) for learning provisional cast-on?

I'd prefer the method that doesn't involve a crochet hook because I seemed to be almost getting that one but not quite catching on well enough to repeat it consistently. But for some reason every video on YouTube is either out of focus, too far away from the hands of the person demonstrating, too fast, or all three.

Link snagged from [livejournal.com profile] cassildra: This fic is freaking awesome.

It's called "Heel Turn," it's New!Star Trek, and it's about Sulu. And knitting. And Kirk being a kind of adorable frat boy. And the whole ensemble being cute. Go. Read. ♥
rivendellrose: (Ravenclaw)
For those who might be interested, I've just joined Ravelry as rivendellrose, and would be happy of more friends over there. ♥ In other knitting news I'm almost finished with the main knitting on my Ravenclaw scarf (version 2.0, a million times better than the one I made in college) - I still have to finish up, do the fringe, and weave in my loose ends, but the B5 rewatch has been great for my productivity.

In other news, we had a major weather shift here in Seattle the last few days, and today I developed a sinus headache, dizziness, and some heart palpitations to go with it. Loooovely stuff, let me tell you. I skipped the gym this evening, and am going to bed early, because I really really really want to be totally recovered from whatever this is by Thursday, when The Boy and I start taking a swing dancing class at the local dance studio. I've never taken a full, formal course on swing before, so this'll be a good refresher for me - I picked it up all in a few short lessons back in high school, but I adore it and can't wait to get back into it.

And now to work on the Secret Project for a little while before I disappear to bed. I think I'm on-target for my deadline, but I really don't want to fall behind. ♥

Today, the Boy and I went to a Sounders F.C. (soccer) game, and it was way too much fun. Doesn't hurt that we had great seats and that it was a high-stakes game for both teams, but despite ending in a draw, the game was fabulous, and we both had a really good time. Even talking about getting season tickets next year. And since I've picked up my knitting again and have been rather wanting to do a striped scarf, I'm considering doing one in Sounders colors, just for the heck of it - mostly because I'd feel silly doing one in my university's colors (I was never into sports at my school), and I already have a first-movie style Ravenclaw scarf, made several years ago. I might still give that one another go instead of the Sounders colors... but I'm not sure. I'd switch to Gryffindor for benefit of a) easier recognition and b) better colors, but, alas, they are the colors of my university's rival school, and while I'm not enough into school pride to wear my own schools colors, I'm sure as heck not letting anyone think I'm wearing theirs. :P

I had a point there, but I think I lost it.

Also, have not seen Merlin yet, what with being in the wrong country. Will catch up ASAP, but for the moment am avoiding spoilers!
