I hate how short weekends feel when I'm busy the whole time. That said, I got a lot done this weekend. Went to gaming night over at [livejournal.com profile] nightsinger's place and hung out with her and [livejournal.com profile] tavern_wench1 and the mini-Time-Lady (and others, and my Boy), and, well, drank probably too much. Then went out to the zoo and to Greenwood Space Travel Supply Co. the next day, and Sunday... I bought all the stuff I needed to have Romana's outfit from "City of Death" for the con! I already had the straw boater and red shoes, so now I've got a black dress that I'll be fixing up, a white blouse, and a cute little red tie. I even learned how to tie the tie. ♥ I am stupidly excited about having this outfit - expect pictures as soon as the dress is finished being modified.

I also bought a new hat, a necklace, a new dress, some boots... yeah, I had a big shopping day. ;) Oh, and really really cute brown galoshes with orange and white flowers on them! They're adorable.

One other thing that happened - it appears that I have more snails. I now appear to have five, possibly six, trap-door snails. Which... is a bit of a rise from having two. The 3-4 (I still haven't gotten a good count, because they're little and they hide easily) new ones are itty-bitty, about the same size as the gravel... and they're going to need new homes, guys. I can't keep six trap-door snails in my one little tank, not once they've gotten bigger. And the first baby has been growing pretty damned fast. So, I'm going to check with the store where I got them from, but... does anybody want a pet baby snail? They're really cute, they eat algae off the inside of your tank, and they take minimal care!

Had a great weekend hanging out with the boy, but that did also mean not nearly enough sleep. :P I got very little done, but we had fun nonetheless.

First day in the new office today, and everything from my desk seems to have survived the trip intact and arrived correctly, including my Dalek and my coffee cups and so on, all of which I was a little worried about. So now I'm bopping around trying to figure out all the new-office stuff, and wishing I wasn't going to be moving desks again at the end of this week, moving up to a different floor. Bleh.

My calico goldfish (the one I call the Doctor) died over the weekend - he'd been acting really weird and lethargic for a while, so it wasn't a surprise, but I was still sad for the poor little guy. The red and white one, Romana, is still fine... and the trapdoor snail, the Master, has regenerated reproduced. I was looking in the tank on Friday night and all of a sudden I noticed that there was a little rock on one of the plants. Except it wasn't a rock... it had antennae. It's a tiny trapdoor snail, about half the size of my pinky fingernail. So now "The Master" is officialy "Delgado," and the new little guy is "Simm." Because he's little, and unexpected, and his shell is all pretty light-brown colored. And also because I'm a total dork. ;)

Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] minerva_fan and many others...

1. Stop talking about politics for a moment or two.
2. Post a reasonably-sized picture in your LJ, NOT under a cut tag, of something pleasant, such as an adorable kitten, or a fluffy white cloud, or a bottle of booze. Something that has NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS.
3. Include these instructions, and share the love.

I couldn't pick which to post, so click on the images for larger versions. ;)

Far left are the dolls [livejournal.com profile] maymargaret made for me, of the Doctor and Romana from "City of Death" (aren't they gorgeous?). Middle is a picture I took in the mountains east of here a few weeks ago. And far right is my snail... he thinks he can climb the plants in the tank. He's such a brave little guy. ♥

So, I got home from work tonight terrified that I was going to have to commit some sort of... snail funeral, and... the little guy was tootling along up on the glass on the side of the tank. I have no idea what's up with this little fellow, but I've removed the potentially-hazardous ceramic pot, and... to be honest, I love the little guy even more than before.

And when I reached in to take out the ceramic pot, both fish nibbled my fingers. I'm feeling like a very lucky tank-mommy right now. ♥

...I really will post something else soon. ;)

Well, shit. I almost certainly have a dead snail, now. Last time I checked, snails were not in the habit of sort of slumping partway out of their shell and not moving or reacting when something (like a goldfish) bumps them.

Hell.

I haven't done anything with him because I was sort of afraid that I'd... I don't know, get rid of him and then find out that he wasn't really dead or something. So he's still in the tank at home, which I hope does not mean the fish will nibble on him, because that might not be healthy (I don't know how he died - snail old age? snail sickness?), but... that'll be something 'fun' to deal with tonight when I get home, I guess. Unless he's miraculously closed up or started moving around. Poor little guy.

At least the fish seem fine... but damn it, I was really fond of that snail.
rivendellrose: (But I'm *innocent!*)
Snail is still hiding in his shell, so last night included a panicked emergency run to the fish store to ask "Is this normal, or did I somehow manage to kill him?" Nice girl who sold them to me originally was there, and very kindly put up with my fussing and worry, and tested the water sample I'd brought for high/low pH and ammonia. Both came up clear, so everything should be fine - he's probably just napping/sulking because the tank is so algae-free. She says she's pretty sure that at any given time a few of his snail-y brethren in the shop's tanks are closed up, so... it should be normal? I left him a piece of lettuce tucked in the rocks right in front of him, but so far he hasn't taken notice.

Meanwhile, Kitty and Roommate have both come down with colds. I feel like the fish and I are the last bastion of health in the apartment. I hope we hold out, and that everybody else gets better quickly! :/

(Also, I have achieved a new level of hippy-ness - I am drinking instant "natural beverage mix" (ie, coffee substitute made of malted barley and things like that) with almond milk. If I'm not careful of these stereotypes, I'll start calling myself Autumn and wearing only cloth made of hemp and bamboo. This is not actually a cause for worry, just for amusement.)

Fish!

So... I have my fish. Two medium-sized fancy goldfish, and one large snail. The snail was supposed to just be a way to help me keep the tank clean, but already he’s turning out to be just as entertaining as the fish - he’s biiiig, for one thing, and very pretty despite a very plain shell, and quite adventurous - he’s already trying to climb the glass checking out everything in the tank... oh, and he’s all black. Well, technically brown (his shell) and dark green (because of algae growing on his shell), but his skin is dark-dark grey. But before I put the light on in the tank he looked absolutely black. And Kendra joked we should call him the Master. And the I looked at the other two - a red-and-white, and a brilliantly colored calico with just slightly buggy eyes - and... it just sort of clicked. So... meet the Doctor, Romana, and the Master.
