something wicked this way comes....

Hey,
zinjadu (and all other Sean Bean and/or Shakespeare fans)...
Take a look at this.
♥ ♥ ♥
Update: Oh, and while I'm linkspamming... I did a little checking at the official Star Trek site (www.startrek.com, as though any of you couldn't have guessed it...) and found this:
In addition to clarifying that he may or may not direct the film, Abrams also distanced himself from Variety's report that the plot of "Star Trek XI" would revolve around a young James T. Kirk and Spock at Starfleet Academy.
"We've made a pact not to discuss any specifics," he said.
At the same time, though, he confessed to being a fan of the Original Series and remarked, "Those characters are so spectacular. I just think that... you know, they could live again."
I'm a bit relieved by this, honestly, mostly because the Starfleet Academy plot idea seemed even further from the usual Trek movie than I'd expect. Still very interested to see what comes of this.

Date: 2006-09-08 05:19 am (UTC)Also, hi, I was just wondering if maybe, near the beginning of Thanksgiving break, I might crash at your place for a day/night/few hours? I still need to talk to the roommate about getting a ride out TO Seattle, but if I do, might it be OK if we hung out a bit before my flight? Because you rock. ^^ Just thought I'd ask in advance - this would probably be around the 6th or 7th of November. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Date: 2006-09-08 05:52 am (UTC)That shouldn't be a problem - one of the housemates miiiight have another friend from... er... hell, I don't remember? Might actually be Whitman, which would be totally bizarre. Anyway, there might be another houseguest that weekend, but we've got plenty of space, and it'd be great to see you for a while! ♥ ♥ ♥

Date: 2006-09-08 03:01 pm (UTC)Hmm, who could ever pull off Shatner and Nimoy?

Date: 2006-09-08 03:26 pm (UTC)I dunno about Nimoy (or Kelley, for the matter, cos if you've got Kirk and Spock, you need to have Bones in there too) but the director's already named Matt Damon as his choice for young!Kirk. Which... could be either incredibly awful or the best thing ever.

Date: 2006-09-08 03:58 pm (UTC)Matt Damon? Wow just wow. I would never thought of Damon for Kirk or any ST character, which your right it could be a disaster or the best casting decison ever. I haven't seen him in a lot of things either (arg, I'm just so misinformed! And pathetic.) so I can't say anything really about his acting.

Date: 2006-09-08 05:57 pm (UTC)...As to how (and possibly why) it was so different... umm... let's just say that I think you'd have a significant sense of deja vu if you watched DS9. I know I got it while watching the first few seasons of B5. Sinclair wasn't my first experience of a station captain who turns out to be a religious figure for an alien race because of some really weird time stuff and aliens who are revered as gods, let's put it that way.
For a good image of why I think Damon would be a good Kirk, rent a movie called Dogma. It's a really funny movie, lots of commentary on religious themes, and Damon plays... an angel called Loki, who's been trapped on earth (specifically Wisconsin) for millenia.

Date: 2006-09-08 06:50 pm (UTC)XD Matt Damon is, I think, a pretty good actor in his own right: The Bourne Identity, The Talented Mr. Ripley, and Dogma are all good Damon-flicks. I've also heard good things about Good Will Hunting, though I never saw it.
His buddy Ben Affleck, though, seems capable of acting only when co-starring with Damon.

Also, I was talking to my dad about the new Star Trek movie, and he said that the idea of a "Starfleet Academy" TV series has been kicking around for some time, but there really isn't that much you can do with that story to justify and entire series. A movie is much more plausible.
Also, if they cast Affleck as Spock will laugh my fucking head off. Like this:
"AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA--"
*PLOP*
*silence*

Date: 2006-09-08 05:46 pm (UTC)*Nods* I'd heard the same rumors about the Academy show, but I'd always figured it'd never work, same reason you cited. A movie... is possible, but I still think it'd be iffy. There's just so much potential for people to misunderstand, think it's a kids movie or something... I don't know. I'd vote that the go with something a bit more general, but hey - if they find a good way to do it, I'm interested to see what comes.
Wouldn't that be hilarious? I'd just die of laughter. And I was going to say in my original post that I wanted to see the original actors in cameo roles, preferably as far off from their usual parts as possible... but then I realized that pretty much no matter what they did with Walter Koenig, it'd leave me snickering about Bester. :D

Date: 2006-09-08 06:55 pm (UTC)*nod* I do have faith in J.J. Abrams as a director
even though it would have been SO AWESOME if they'd given it to JMS...so we'll just have to wait and see what develops.Ben Affleck... just trying to put him in my head together with Leonard Nimoy is causing major system failure. Ben Affleck can be a decent actor (but if, and only if, he's acting alongside Matt Damon, it seems) but he's just so very... un-Spocky.
Well, if they did do actor cameos, they wouldn't have that many left... Will Shatner, George Takei, Leonard Nimoy, Nichelle Nichols, and Walter Koenig are the only original crew-members still alive.
Hee. And yes, Bester. And the thing about Bester is that whenever I see him, I just go "Heeheeeeeee, Chekov."

Date: 2006-09-08 09:47 pm (UTC)On the other hand, I would still so totally back it if he'd been given the chance. If only because... damn, it'd be nice to see him work with a real budget. ♥
No, no - Affleck is totally not Spocky-y. Although I'm not sure who is, come to that. They might have to go with a total uknown... at the very least I can't think of anybody who'd work.
I know. It's like whichever one he's supposed to be, I'm automatically thinking of the other. They're just such great contradictions! XD

I still think it's freaky that Matt Damon is even rumored to play Kirk. Could be either really good or so very, very bad.

Date: 2006-09-08 05:51 pm (UTC)See, I totally think it'd be awesome. But I'm starting to see that I'm in the minority on this one, and it might just be further sign of how crazy I am.
Hey.

Date: 2006-09-09 04:55 pm (UTC)Being a real adult, in my considered and intellectual opinion, sucks ass. The job's okay, I get on great with some of my coworkers, but for the most part I'm just killing time and hoping I can retain my sanity til I can get back to graduate school and try to find something interesting to do with my life.
How about you?
Re: Hey.
Date: 2006-09-09 07:13 pm (UTC)I wouldn't know what being a real adult is like yet. There was a snafu in the class offerings so I'm still waiting to take a few classes I need to graduate. It's intensely frustrating because I need a real job and I can't really get one until I finally finish school.
It's funny that you're so ready to go back to school. Most people I know go on and on about how much they love working instead of having to go to class. That could be because I live with a bartender and dot-com superstar, though.
I'm excited about having a real job. I've had a few people mention that I could get pretty much my job now with their company and make decent money. I'm ready to be done with comp. lit. It's just not that interesting for me anymore. Hours of studying and reading just don't do it for me. I'd rather work hard on something for 8 hours and then go out with friends after work.
