something wicked this way comes....

Hey,
zinjadu (and all other Sean Bean and/or Shakespeare fans)...
Take a look at this.
♥ ♥ ♥
Update: Oh, and while I'm linkspamming... I did a little checking at the official Star Trek site (www.startrek.com, as though any of you couldn't have guessed it...) and found this:
In addition to clarifying that he may or may not direct the film, Abrams also distanced himself from Variety's report that the plot of "Star Trek XI" would revolve around a young James T. Kirk and Spock at Starfleet Academy.
"We've made a pact not to discuss any specifics," he said.
At the same time, though, he confessed to being a fan of the Original Series and remarked, "Those characters are so spectacular. I just think that... you know, they could live again."
I'm a bit relieved by this, honestly, mostly because the Starfleet Academy plot idea seemed even further from the usual Trek movie than I'd expect. Still very interested to see what comes of this.

Date: 2006-09-08 03:58 pm (UTC)Matt Damon? Wow just wow. I would never thought of Damon for Kirk or any ST character, which your right it could be a disaster or the best casting decison ever. I haven't seen him in a lot of things either (arg, I'm just so misinformed! And pathetic.) so I can't say anything really about his acting.

Date: 2006-09-08 05:57 pm (UTC)...As to how (and possibly why) it was so different... umm... let's just say that I think you'd have a significant sense of deja vu if you watched DS9. I know I got it while watching the first few seasons of B5. Sinclair wasn't my first experience of a station captain who turns out to be a religious figure for an alien race because of some really weird time stuff and aliens who are revered as gods, let's put it that way.
For a good image of why I think Damon would be a good Kirk, rent a movie called Dogma. It's a really funny movie, lots of commentary on religious themes, and Damon plays... an angel called Loki, who's been trapped on earth (specifically Wisconsin) for millenia.

Date: 2006-09-08 06:33 pm (UTC)Oh, yeah I remember that JMS took his idea for B5 to Paramount but they turned him down but WB picked it up. Suprise, suprise when DS9 showed up and had the same plotline storywise, apparently JMS had a lawsuit against Paramount. I think they settled out of court, at least this is all I could find out about it on the net.
Oh I've seen Dogma- he was Loki! I remember now, yeah he was good in that. And I remember seeing Good Will Hunting, Saving Private Ryan- so yeah he probably would be a good choice. I just wonder if he can imitate Shatner though? Since I haven't seen the Original ST I would have no idea, what do you think? Or should he imitate Shatner at all? Should he just do his own thing? Hmm...

Date: 2006-09-08 07:44 pm (UTC)And I so did not know he used the money to fund B5, oh the irony it burns.
When did DS9 come on the air? It felt like forever and I meant that to come out better than it did. But it seemed to have run longer than TNG at least in my faulty memory.

Date: 2006-09-08 08:50 pm (UTC)It ran seven years, just like TNG... and I believe it started in 1992? Early 90s, anyway, same era as B5. They even cross actors a few times - the guy who played Harriman Grey turns up as a recurring and much-loved semi-villain in later seasons of DS9. Slimey, delightfully sanctimonious character... I was so happy to see him in B5.

Date: 2006-09-09 06:06 am (UTC)Early '90s was a great time period for tv shows. Aww, weenie Grey even though I didn't want to I like him a little bit. You know I'm thinking I might netflix DS9 just to see if I might like it. Is Andrea Thomposon (Talia) ever on DS9? I wondered why she left, and if it was for a better part on DS9...

Date: 2006-09-09 07:09 am (UTC)It was! And you should, although the first season kind of... is iffy sometimes. ...Although once a person survives S1 for B5, that probably sets new levels for 'iffy.' Ugh, Sinclair and Sakai. Anyway. No, she didn't... I double-checked IMDb.com just to make sure, and she wasn't ever on it. My impression had always been that she left B5 because the plot called for her to leave, not the other way 'round - is that not true?

Date: 2006-09-09 07:33 am (UTC)XD All right, here's the story.
At WonderCon a few years ago, he came to give a talk (and then later hang around to sign stuff). I hadn't really gotten into Babylon 5 at that point (beyond the first couple seasons) and I mostly knew him through comics he'd written. I can't remember a lot of what he talked about, unfortunately, but what really stood out was that he said that he'd give signed copies of the scripts to "Sleeping in Light" (the B5 series finale) to whoever gave him the best (and the worst) questions. I can't remember what 'worst question' was, but he thought that the question I asked (something about advice for young people who want to get into comic creation) was the best one. The real kicker is that I've had the damned script in my desk drawer for about three years now and I can't read it cos I don't wanna spoil myself!
But you know what really sucks? Long before I met JMS, back when I was, like, 11, I went to a con with my dad where Claudia Christian was a guest star, and I had NO IDEA WHO SHE WAS. GAAAAAAHHHH! *tears hair out*

:D

Date: 2006-09-09 07:05 am (UTC)...Or maybe that's just me. I totally had a crush on him when I was twelve. Very weird, looking back, but then... I am weird. o_O

You would be too, if you had to put up with Captain Sunshine all day and didn't have a Vulcan's patience to help you.(no subject)

Date: 2006-09-08 06:50 pm (UTC)XD Matt Damon is, I think, a pretty good actor in his own right: The Bourne Identity, The Talented Mr. Ripley, and Dogma are all good Damon-flicks. I've also heard good things about Good Will Hunting, though I never saw it.
His buddy Ben Affleck, though, seems capable of acting only when co-starring with Damon.
no subject
Date: 2006-09-08 07:04 pm (UTC)Yeah I realized I had seen him in more things than I thought-he is a good actor. Oh and the Ben Affleck thing? I totally noticed that, I thought I was the only one...

Date: 2006-09-08 07:09 pm (UTC)Also, Ben Affleck needs to learn to breathe through his nose. Mouth-breathing is just not attractive when your face is filling a 12-foot tall screen.no subject
Date: 2006-09-08 07:40 pm (UTC)If I knew how to strike out things html-style I would totally agree with you. :D
Also the-blank-stare-of-doom doesn't work for him as an acting tool, someone should really tell him that...

Like this.Yeah... having a pretty face is one thing, having a pretty face that's also emotive is something else altogether.
