30 Days of Star Trek Day 11 - Crew Position You Would Want
If we go totally realistic and based on my current job, I'd love to be in communications/administration, handling paperwork and other bureaucratic minutiae, preferably aboard a science vessel.
If we go for "slightly dreamy but relatively reasonable based on my academic history and interests," I'd love to be a xeno-anthropologist. Not a first contact specialist like Burnham, because I can't handle that kind of stress, but someone who works on background and studies cultures that have already been contacted. I'd need some much better linguistics skills than I currently have, but that seems totally within reach assuming I'd started this path back when I started college in the real world.
Day 12 - Day 11 - Crew Position You Would Not Want
Command, security, or engineering. I could easily manage as low-level science or medical personnel (again, probably administrative), but I don't want anything to do with the decision-making part of running the ship, the keeping-it-safe-from-intruders, or the keeping-it-running parts.

Date: 2019-09-04 06:46 am (UTC)I like to imagine that I'd be a Jadzia-style scientist, but again probably all the lethal anomalies of the week would be too intense.
Realistically I'd probably be a civilian who worked in proximity to Starfleet (like Kasidy Yates or Neelix) but I want that fancy uniform, dammit. 😆

Date: 2019-09-04 10:59 am (UTC)Starfleet scientists do seem to be high on the lethal anomalies and low on the laboratory research, don't they? Funny, that. XD
Kasidy is such an interesting character in terms of her job (as well as everything else), isn't she? We so rarely get civilians in general on Star Trek, but particularly civilians running ships and appearing / disappearing frequently on jobs.
